We will ask you to strictly follow these piercing aftercare tips to avoid any sort of infection. Also, note that the healing time of your piercing can differ as per the skin, weather, and how you take care of it.

Body Piercing Aftercare Tips/ Instruction

  1. Body piercing needs to be cleansed twice a day for the initial healing period. The best timings for cleansing the area is in the morning and at night.
  2. Always wash your hands with hand rub or use sanitizer before cleaning the piercing.
  3. You can also use disposable gloves when you touch the place.
  4. We advise you to clean the piercing with a saline solution (Saltwater). You can either buy it at the pharmacy or make it on your own.
  5. To prepare a saline solution, mix the clean water with rock salt in a 1:4 ratio. Gently heat that saline solution.
  6. Soak a piece of clean cotton in the lukewarm saline solution and place it on your piercing for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse with the same, and pat dry.
  7. You can use a cotton swab with the saline solution to clean any crust/scab. Do not pick it with your nails.
  8. Gently pat and dry your piercing with disposable paper products such as gauze, tissues, cloth, and towels.
  9. If you are wearing a bandage to hide your piercing, then make sure it’s not holding the piercing down. Pressure on the piercing or jewellery can make a wound on your piercing area.
  10. Be careful with your clothes as it can cling to your piercing.
  11. Eat properly, keep yourself hydrated and take proper rest.
  12. Please try to be patient with the healing process. Each body is unique, and the healing time varies from skin to skin.
  13. The average healing time is 2 to 4 weeks.
  14. If the tenderness or oozing is taking more than the average healing time, we would suggest you not to worry and continue your piercing aftercare process. The outcome will be perfect.

Lip and Tongue Piercing Aftercare

Lip and tongue are the most sensitive parts of the human body. If you are planning to pierce them, then you should also know the piercing aftercare tips for a better recovery. At Inkbaba, our professional piercing consultants proffer the best remedies and aftercare tips so that you can flaunt your beautiful piercing without any pain or worries.

How to Take Care of Your Lip and Tongue Piercing?

  1. Check your piercing twice a day and make sure that the thread and screw on the jewelry are correctly fixed.
  2. Always clean your hands with hand rub or use sanitizer before cleaning the piercing.
  3. You can also use disposable gloves for checking and cleaning your piercing.
  4. Reduce intake of aspirin, alcohol, and caffeine.
  5. Use a new sterile toothbrush. It will ensure the cleanliness of your mouth from inside.
  6. Use a toothpaste that doesn’t give any inflammation to your piercing.
  7. Try to chew gently and take small bites while having your meals.
  8. Consumption of ice cream and cold beverages can be helpful to reduce swelling.
  9. Hydrate yourself with juice, filtered water, etc. (Take them more frequently.)
  10. Sleep enough and have a nutritious diet. Your piercing will heal faster only if you follow a healthy lifestyle.
  11. Try to maintain the tongue level in your mouth to avoid biting the jewelry when you eat.
  12. You must wear the same piercing jewelry for at least five months.
  13. Studies show non-steroidal anti-inflammatory products such as ibuprofen can help to minimize the swelling. (Use any pain killer medicine only after consulting with your doctor)
  14. The time of healing can differ from person to person. But gradually, it takes a few weeks for a piercing to heal from outside and 3 to 5 months from inside.
  15. Your piercing might look healed before the time we have mentioned, but we suggest you to have some patience, complete your healing time and change or replace your piercing after that only.
  16. If you want to remove the piercing before the healing time for an issue, we are always there to help. But, keep it in your mind that there are possibilities of shrinking of the piercing hole (even it can be permanently closed). In such a case, you will need to go again for the piercing.
  17. If you are going to have a piercing yet again, make sure the old piercing got appropriately recovered.

Note: In the beginning, it can be challenging to coordinate with the piercing but eventually, you will get comfortable with it.

WHAT IS NORMAL?

  1. Bleeding, bruising or swelling is a common factor. These are not indications of any complication.
  2. Try sleeping with your head elevated above your heart (use pillows) to limit overnight swelling for the piercings above your neck.
  3. Tenderness or discomfort in the area of a new piercing is usual.
  4. Feeling stinging, burning or paining for days, during the healing process.
  5. The secretion of a fluid that contains blood plasma, lymph, and dead cells is perfectly normal.
  6. If the color looks whitish-yellow and forms a crust on the jewelry at the openings of the piercing, then it is not the pus and indicates that your piercing is healing.
  7. Once healed, your piercing may secrete a semi-solid white malodorous substance from the oil glands called sebum. Don’t mistake it as pus.
  8. Piercings have a tendency to have a series of “ups and downs” during the process by appearing healed and then regressing.
  9. Tightness is a common fact for the healing process of all the piercings. A piece of jewelry might not swing freely, even after they are thoroughly healed.
